About Salopian Inn

Salopian Inn is an award winning restaurant, nestled in the picturesque outskirts of McLaren Vale, on the road to Willunga. Showcasing the freshest regional produce sourced locally and from the Fleurieu Peninsula region, owner Michael Ewers is passionate about his establishment, wanting to provide guests a relaxing dining experience and enchanting ambience.

Michael continues the tradition of sophisticated high quality food; after taking over from his sister Pip Forrester, previous owner for 16 years, who established Salopian Inn as an exclusive venue taking it to famed heights. Overlooking a vista of grape vines, this charming establishment is set in a historic, colonial sandstone cottage dating from 1851 and provides a blissfully rustic ambience with slate floors, high backed wooden chairs and eye-catching art work.

Fantastic aromas waft thoughout the restaurant and an alluring atmosphere is exuded from the warmth of the pot-belly stove. Several dining rooms feature open fires in winter; two private rooms can accommodate group bookings and outside you can sit on the spacious veranda, overlooking the breathtaking Sellicks Hill ranges and the geometric, scenic splendour of the vineyards.

Salopian Inn is a restaurant for food and wine lovers who enjoy aromatic flavours, and particularly focuses upon the seafood of the gulf waters. Try the Encounter Bay whole garfish in a prawn and leek soufflé accompanied by a butter sauce and Yarra Valley salmon roe; or the Blue Swimmer crab tortellini with truffle cream sauce and Coorong cockles braised in a fresh tomato sauce.

If seafood doesn't take your fancy indulge in sumptuous mains like the tender chargrilled eye fillet of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roasted bone marrow and beef jus or the rack of Normanville lamb with a tempura battered zucchini flower and ratatouille. Finish the meal with a delectable and wicked white chocolate and passionfruit creme caramel with fresh strawberries complemented by a Courvoisier VSOP Cognac, the perfect finale to a decadent evening.

In creating the seasonally changing menus, Head Chef Billy Dohnt selects only the finest of local ingredients. Serious about first-class food, Billy is a master of his trade and brings a wealth of experience and inspiration to the menu.

Descend the stairs to the delightful underground three-room cellar where guests can select from a fine selection of wines, naturally featuring many wines from surrounding vineyards of McLaren Vale and a choice selection of both national and international wines and is particularly interesting as it showcases an extensive selection of older wines. A knowledgeable host is always on hand to assist you with your selection.

Salopian Inn has managed to win on every front of the highly competitive dining industry; a charming venue, rustic décor, fine crockery, flawless service, but mostly the food says everything about Salopian; exquisite in every way.
