At first glace you may think Platters Restaurant and Deck is but another unassuming eatery on the main dining strip on Main Street Mornington with uncovered tables and blackboard specials; there’s a reason why regulars return here time and time again and it’s not just because of the handy location. Owner Claire Kinnaird makes no excuse, her attentive service and friendly attitude is ongoing. Similarly, Chef Darren Otto's creativity in the kitchen remains at the top of his game. The menu mixes the familiar with the less obvious -consider the Open Lamb Souvlaki or the Greek Lamb Pizza topped with flavour in mind. Desserts, including the house specialty lemon tart, are worth saving room for.

Situated in a handy location in the mecca of the dining strip on Main Street Mornington, Platters Restaurant & Deck has quickly become a local favourite with a fantastic reputation for impeccable standards; owners Claire Kinnaird & Darren Otto are passionate about great food and exceptional service.

Platters sets an enticing backdrop, offering a comfy, relaxed and chilled out ambience; the perfect escape where you can be spoiled, unwind and dine, in a charming seaside village atmosphere.

Suitable for a quiet dinner, for one or two, perhaps a business meeting or even a group booking with friends or family, there's room for everyone. The deck can be enclosed offering warmth and comfort during the colder months or is the perfect spot to sip on a beverage during those balmy summer evenings where the scent of the salty bay breezes is an absolute draw card.

Platters is a popular haunt for shoppers who take advantage of Mornington's many boutiques, galleries and markets. Alfresco tables positioned out the front provide locals the perfect place for a lazy morning Grinders Coffee or T2 tea whilst walking the dog.

Owner, Claire, has 19 years hospitality experience, predominately with ALH, and her impeccable front of house skill is evident through her highly polished service skills and welcoming attitude. Complementing Claire is owner/chef Darren, who is internationally travelled, and takes immense pride in providing freshly cooked, quality food at affordable prices.

The a la carte menu is extensive, with 40 mains available; dishes reflect Darren's European travel experience and are infused with aromatic Greek influences. The lamb spit provides sumptuous dishes worth trying including the flavoursome ‘Open Lamb Souvlaki' and ‘Greek Lamb Pizza.'

The Meat Lovers menu is extensive and unique with kangaroo, emu, crocodile, aged sirloin and eye fillet expertly cooked to order. The 'Carpetbag Steak' is a number one favourite by many regular customers who return for this tantalising and tender dish; ‘eye fillet stuffed with oysters, wrapped with bacon and topped with a creamy garlic and mushroom sauce' and of course, cooked to perfection.

The meat or seafood platters are also worthy of a mention all amazing in value, size and most importantly cost! Perfect for groups wanting to sample a myriad of Darren's eclectic, flavoursome delights and his culinary expertise. Vegetarians, coeliacs, lactose allergies and children are also well looked after with many options available.

The dessert menu makes it very difficult to refuse with Darren's speciality, the blissfully piquant ‘Lemon Tart' impossible to pass by. ‘The Sticky Date Pudding' is served warm and smothered in a rich caramel sauce – a delectable ending after a delicious main.

The wines available have been selected to suit all tastes and accordingly matched to all the dishes available. All wines are also sold by the glass.

This has been our favourite restaurant for many years on the peninsula.Outstanding food at a very reasonable price and the service is second to none.A wide variety of choice on the menu but I can't go past the open lamb souvalaki everytime !Beautiful Mornay oysters by request also keeps us coming back !Tell Claire and Darren the chef that Patrick and Karen sent you ;-)
