It’s difficult to get accolades better than this; a heritage listed building and regarded as an icon on the Mornington Peninsula, The Grand Hotel Bistro sits contentedly in the middle of Main Street. Subtle lighting highlights the building's original features that are balanced by a modern and relaxed setting. Here you’ll find a venue abuzz with people relaxing on the deck or enjoying the town views. The dietary considerate menu changes seasonally, and may offer seared sea scallops on rice with sliced jamon and spring onions in a saffron and sherry sauce, served with cilantro salsa, or grilled harissa lamb skewers served atop roasted macadamia and spinach cous cous.

THE GRAND HOTEL BISTRO DESIGN

The Grand Hotel Bistro combines the beauty of the past while embracing today's modern comforts. The freshly painted walls are adorned with huge Leonard Long original paintings. At every turning point there are eye-catching paintings or historic memorabilia and photographs of rural scenes of 'old Mornington'. Time passes easily while looking at the photographs in the foyer of old bay steamers docking at Mornington Pier.

The spectacular leadlight entrance begins a delightful journey into all the charms that are reflective of a past era, setting a backdrop for an enticing dining experience with a warm and relaxing atmosphere. All staff are uniformed, highly attentive and friendly, offering impeccable service.

THE GRAND HOTEL BISTRO VIBE

The Grand buzzes, especially on Wednesdays, with locals and tourists who attend Victoria's longest running market - the Wednesday Main Street Market, which has been running for three decades and is always a point of interest. Drop in to the Grand Hotel for a Cisco coffee, a Twinings tea, a glass of wine and perhaps either a snack or bistro meal.

DINING AT THE GRAND HOTEL BISTRO

The Grand offers two choices of scenic alfresco dining. Dine on Main Street and sit amongst all the action or dine more privately on the upper level, which offers picturesque glimpses of Port Phillip Bay. The couch area with plush throw cushions is also a great place to relax and catch up in comfort. The Main Bar is extremely spacious, with many features including three pool tables, an interactive jukebox, quiet booth-like areas, and plasma screens with the footy, cricket, boxing and all other major sporting events always playing.

The Bistro meals are generous in size and fabulous in taste. Seasonal favourites might include the eye fillet topped with crayfish tails and parsley sauce, served with chips and salad, or the tiger prawn spaghetti with creamy leek and vermouth sauce. A great selection of lighter options could include their fabulous Caesar salad or sardines crumbed with fresh parsley and accompanied by romesco sauce.

The Grand Hotel offers a broad selection of menu items on the Seniors' Menu, which for only $14.95 offers amazing value for a two course meal, such as lamb's fry and crispy bacon or a choice of three vegetarian options (the 'Potato Gnocchi' being a favourite) with the dessert special.

The Grand menu has been so well thought out, they even offer four gluten free options, and some of these can be changed so they are dairy free also. A $7.50 children's menu gives six options such as Roast of the Day or the old faithful spaghetti bolognese.

Additionally, The Grand offers a carefully planned wine list boasting a selection of 15 reds (some local), 15 whites including some of the finest national and international selections, and two selections of bubbles. Most notably, eight of these wines are sold by the glass.

The here staff are so good they know their regulars' orders by memory; many frequent diners come from far and wide for that welcoming smile of recognition and ability to recall their favourite lamb's fry and bacon or crumbed brains and bacon.
