Vicolo Cafe & Risotto Bar serves perfectly prepared and authentic risotto variations; Melbourne's first risotto bar is a direct doorway into a Tuscan eatery. This new venue is adding an eclectic dimension to the Young Street dining scene. By delicately infusing traditionally made stocks, rice, olive oil and harmonising herbs to perfection, Vicolo creates sublime Italian meals.

The recipes used here, contain secrets passed through the generations, allowing you to indulge in diverse variations of risotto, mouth-watering authentic vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes, which capture the true essence of Italy.

Vicolo is a Business Member of The Coeliac Society and have a large variety of Gluten Free Meals available upon request. This new eatery is bringing something special to the Moonee Ponds area, with their creative, healthy and tender risottos being the main draw card; boasting a selection of more than 20 combinations. (Vicolo offers gluten free pasta, entrees, main courses and desserts and all of their risottos are gluten free!)

Start with a few entrees to share like the ‘Antipasto: offering a selection of Italian delicacies served with crusty ciabatta bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar; the 'olive saltate: pan tossed oven dried olives with chilli, garlic and fresh herbs'; and the simply divine 'cozze primavera; mussels tossed in a white wine, fresh tomato and garlic brodo served with crusty ciabatta bread'.

Then (after salivating over the extensive menu) dig into a moist risotto like the ‘risotto alla zucca: roasted butternut pumpkin with parma ham and baby spinach.' If you can fit it in the ‘marinated lamb served warm over a salad of baby spinach, roast pumpkin, fetta, black olives and tomatoes' its well worth it as it is a dish so tender and flavoursome, it melts in the mouth.

Food: Outstanding  Setting/Decor: Good  Service: Very Good  Value: Good

As someone who is very particular and can be very critical when it comes to food I have virtually no complaints when it comes to Vicolo. My pet hate when it comes to eating out is thinking that I could've made something better myself at home- when it comes to Vicolo this is not the case. Their risotto is absolutely second to none (I especially loved the ragu of pork and italian sausage) and hands down the best I have ever tasted. As an added bonus they prepare their meals gluten-free (though you wouldn't know it) and my only slight criticism is price at dinner time- a small bowl on pasta with 2 meatballs (although delicious)was $20 and seemed a tad pricey to me. Either way I would most definitely recommend vicolo as a place to eat for lunch or dinner. Be aware though that better value can be found on the lunch menu- a large selection of risottos or other various dishes with a glass of wine is about $12 or $13- BARGAIN!
