Spangled Drongo Restaurant Overview

The fragrant aromas of Thai spices lure diners to the Spangled Drongo Restaurant, nestled just outside the centre of Nimbin. Set in a brightly painted house surrounded by gardens, this family owned & operated restaurant is a lovely spot to relax & soak up the colourful local atmosphere; grab an alfresco table & take in the views to Mt Nardi. Organic green tea is served to all customers on arrival, preparing palates perfectly for dishes like spicy laksa with rice noodles, Asian greens & chicken, seafood or tofu that arrive promptly from the kitchen. Spangled Drongo Restaurant uses organic & locally sourced ingredients wherever possible; the house wine is Rosnay Organic, available by the glass.

The Spangled Drongo Nimbin Thai restaurant is popular among locals for the fresh, light and mostly organic food on offer. They know they can rely on a plate of delicious Thai food served fresh from the sizzling woks. The traditional red or green curries are also available with tofu, fresh chicken and seafood and occasionally grilled lamp rump slivers are on the menu.

Locals also advise visitors about the best place to eat because we're not in the middle of town but tucked away in the quieter, northern end of town on the main street opposite the community centre and marketplace.

There is a relaxed vibe: if you're eating outside there's plenty of street life and greenery around - a nice place to enjoy a beer (we serve Chang beer whenever we can - otherwise it's Coopers Pale Ale).

Sitting inside is preferable on cooler evenings, where chef Tommy Price works in a sizzling, sometimes fiery, open kitchen. It's great entertainment for the kids. With a warm and colourful decor indoors it's a convivial place to eat. We offer Rosnay wines by the glass as perfect accompaniment to Thai flavours.

We are lucky to live nearby and have the Spangled Drongo as our "local". Either as a place for a quick takeaway on the weekend, or a longer shared meal with friends visiting the Northern Rivers, it's a great spot. The food is extremely fresh, and the specials board always has something new to try (desert specials are especially good). Their Thai coconut curry pie is definitely unique and worth trying, the pastry is crisp and light and makes a good contrast to the curry filling.
