These mountains, 22km north of Caboolture, were discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770, and named for their resemblance to the glass houses in England. The mountains were originally formed by giant cores of long extinct volcanoes and hold numerous caves, some of which contain Aboriginal paintings. Four of these mountains are set aside as national parks, and are popular for bushwalking and mountain climbing. Others are protected forestry areas.
