Don’t Mocha Me Laugh: What’s Your Fave Latte Flavour?

From turmeric to lavender and everything in between, there’s a latte flavour out there for everyone!

The term ‘caffe latte’ was created in certain regions of Italy where American tourists frequented as these travellers struggled with the bitter and richer flavours of espresso; warm milk was added to make a more palatable and sweeter drink.

It was in the 1980s in Seattle, Washington that the ‘latte’ was standardised to become one of the most ordered coffees on the planet.

Here are six creative latte options to taste test at your local café:

Matcha latte: everyone seems to be obsessed with matcha at the moment, so why not add it to your coffee? Made from ground green tea leaves, matcha powder has a slightly bitter, earthy taste so you might want to add a little sugar or sweetener to your latte.

Turmeric latte: turmeric and ginger are antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory foods can help protect you from chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, making them great healthy alternatives to normal coffee.

Lavender latte: treat yourself to a relaxing morning with a calming lavender latte, made with simple lavender syrup and frothy oak milk; with stress-relieving properties, this is the perfect latte to start your day the right way.

This latte was created in 2003 by a Starbucks employee who infused a rich mixture of pumpkin spice sauce, cinnamon and cloves into an espresso and topped it with whipped cream.

Spanish latte: this is a unique combination of espresso, condensed milk and regular milk which first appeared on menus in Madrid – hence the name. It is much like a Vietnamese coffee – a robust and pleasant beverage with an energizing flavour.
