Australia Day in Australia

A national celebration in the motherland

Like Ireland to St. Patrick Day, Australia loves to celebrate their official national day in true form. Whatever the weather brings, a can or two of beer, a trip to the beach for a game of cricket and a snag on the barbie are mandatory. Strangers may turn up to celebrate with you and the Australian flag is adorned on every possible surface. And that’s ok. Celebrated on the 26th of January, each state and city has a variety of activities available for the lone tourist or the Aussie family to attend. The Australian of the Year is a prestigious award that goes hand in hand with the national day, recognizing outstanding Australian citizens both locally and nationwide who have made great personal achievements and stand as role models for fellow citizens.

Australia Day in Australia

Australia Day is one of the nation’s biggest celebrations, with even travelling Aussies going out of their way to make a day of it. If staying home or lazing around the barbie isn’t your idea of a well spent public holiday, fireworks and festivals are held nationwide. If the sun is shining, you can guarantee the beaches will be full, as well as a wide selection of Australian pubs and clubs. Whatever you choose to do, Australia Day is a memorable experience to be had in the country, with new friends made and a variety of activities to choose from.
