The excellent service masked the cracks of what was a distinctly average meal. The setting, overlooking the Palazzo Versace's pool was glamorous but sterile. Stunning Italian marble and a glass wall offered a bling experience but little romance. I did not appreciate being stung $33 for a glass of bubbles without an inkling of the price - beware the Champagne trolley. The langoustine entree was the highlight of the meal - tasty and beautifully presented. The most disappointing aspect of the food was the temperature. A combination of plates not being hot enough and over-keen air conditioning meant the food was cold very quickly. The duck was satisfactory but the 'spicy duck sauce' could have been the same one as that tipped over the entrees - not spicy. Vegetables - chewy. Cheese board - undersized. It has taken a day for the disappointment to set in, probably a credit to the staff who were outstanding. But even they could not allay the disparity between quality of food and the huge bill.

We stayed at Palazzo Versace for our 5th anniversary & ate at Vanita's. Slightly dissapointed with the room (nice - but didn't live up to the hype...) but our meal was fantastic. Both the food & service were excellent - though we almost added $800 to our bill after a hard sell on a special after dinner nip (no mention of $) - luckily we went with a port & coffee instead & kept our meal to around $200 per head. Would happily visit again though.
