This heritage listed hotel has been serving the city for more than 170 years and still retains old school charm both outside and in, with a classic façade welcoming guests into relaxed surrounds. Step into a moody dining ambience of dark walls, slate fireplace and wooden furniture and savour enticing starters like salt and togarashi pepper squid, Asian slaw and sticky ginger; or wood-fired confit garlic and cheese pizza. Salivate over mains of crispy Scottsdale pork belly, sweet corn puree, apple and leek compote and honeyed Dutch carrots, or crumbed scallops, slaw, chips and lemon aioli; finishing decadently with a dessert of apple, rhubarb, almond and pistachio crumble, coconut caramel and vanilla ice cream.

Sensational mushroom risotto for lunch
We stayed just down the road at Macquarie Manor and thoroughly enjoyed a lunch of local mushroom risotto and vegetable special with local dark beers (there’s a great selection of beers too). The risotto was generous, tasty and fantastic for $15. The friendly helpful service and a chat with the owner made this meal truly exceptional. Pleased to be able to say this is better than most popular international places we’ve been to. Overall a most memorable experience - highly recommended!

Great, cosy pub food
For entrée I had the bread with a trio of dips. All of the dips were clearly home made and delicious, a great start to the meal. For mains I had the lamb shank with mash and sprouts. The lamb was juicy, the mash creamy and the sprouts were a nice compliment to the meal. Great service, food was delivered in good time and I was provided a very personal experience. Would highly recommend; the best meal I've had in Hobart.
