We live in Launceston and have tried most restaurants, but we keep coming back to Smokey Joe's. The food is always wonderful, the service and atmosphere are great.
FWanderings
We decided to try Smokey Joe's on our last trip to Launceston (August, 2010) after reading many positive reviews online. We were only in town three days, but decided to eat there twice. The owner (from the U.S.) is serious about serving authentic dishes 'from home'. Some are southern style, some are diner style.. but whatever the style it's all served with heart which you can taste in every bite. After expressing our appreciation for the food and how we came to eat there, he invited us into his small kitchen and we watched him make his own sausage meat from scratch. The next day at lunch time he cooked some up and allowed us sample it as an 'amuse bouche' of sorts. It wasn't yet 'ready' or to his standards he said..but he included us in his tasting process because he always tastes as he goes. We would make a day trip from Victoria to visit Smokey Joe's, in fact it's our intention to do exactly that.
