About Phat Mango by Martin the Chef

Expect to taste the Northern Territory on a plate at Darwin restaurant Phat Mango by Martin the Chef on Smith Street in the heart of the CBD. Port holes, an octopus wall mural and shiny copper pendents welcome guests, while an open kitchen gives a glimpse of busy Chefs in action preparing Cuisine Australiana. Settle in with a cooling cocktail like The Riverside – gin, lime, sugar and a secret or two – while devouring small plates of crocodile laksa with lemon myrtle broth; or share a Territory taste platter of buffalo carpaccio, roo tartare, crocodile croquettes, Brahman meatballs, braised roo tail, bush apple and green plum compote and river mint salsa verde. Pasta lovers may be tempted by housemade roasted beetroot gnocchi; don’t leave without trying Phat’s signature ants nest dessert!

Order one of everything!
This is one of my favorite places to dine... why? They are not scared to mix up their menu regularly and have new offerings that delight the senses. The fusion dishes incorporating tropical tastes and local produce never disappoint. Best to enjoy with six people, so you can order many different options to share. A friendly welcome by Tristan, Ahad makes the best cocktails, and the wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. This a must-try as a visitor and if you are a local... are you really if you haven't eaten here at least a few times. Recommend that you book.

Interesting but not for me!
Found the food to be a variety of well cooked, seared, almost raw, minimal, unique flavours and interesting. But after having four small plates we decided to not go any further with the menu. Out of the four dishes I only enjoyed one while my husband managed to finish the rest but couldn’t handle the near raw scallops. Stick to what the locals recommend when in Darwin as no one that lives here actually told us about this place.

Phat Mango, despite its ordinary shopfront and no outdoor tables is Darwin CBD's answer to fine dining. A well dressed crowd, excellent wine and cocktail list, stunning service and amazing food. Please order the chicken liver pate, the best I have ever eaten and that includes in France. Of course here it's served with warm damper. We were really impressed with the quality of the food, the presentation and generous serves. We will be back.

You bloody beauty!
Great service, excellent use of local products, friendly staff and lovely ambience! we will be back to try the items we couldn't fit in! 5 stars!

One of Darwin's best
Great service, great staff with foods and flavours that we haven't ever found elsewhere in Darwin. Put this one on your "must visit" list and you won't regret it.

Do yourself a favour and book a flight to Darwin, just to go to this restaurant. Blue Cheese Polenta - my newest love. Phenomenal. Really cool wine list and the food, well the food is some of the best I've had. It may be clear I really liked Phat Mango

For our mains we had the roo tail osso buco and jewfish which was the market fish of the day and both dishes were absolutely phenomenal. We then had the wattleseed semifreddo to share for desert which was also amazing. The food was all next level and the service and speed at which our meals were brought out were also fantastic. All round a great memorable meal!

What a gem ?? in the DRW CBD
You have to try the roo tartare ????.
Every local inspired dish is paired to perfection with flavours. I’ve heard the marrow dish is to die for but didn’t get the chance to try that one. Cocktails were delicious and well thought out. Great aircon and vibe. Martin is a wonderful host, warm and interesting. Every person working there was happy, knowledgeable and know the menu so hot them up for the best recommendations. Thank you for making the evening a delight with the birthday sparklers in my desert and the rasperberrycello??

Best experience in Darwin
Beautiful restaurant in Darwin CBD. Each dish are amazing, starting with the small plate up to the main meal. Cocktails are very good. Food is amazing and different, super Yummy....thank you Guys!!

Special occasion or just as a treat
Tasty food and interesting drink options that are different and locally inspired. Great service, feels like a real night out!

The only issue with Phat Mango is choosing which of the favourite dishes to eat in one sitting. It's unfair to only have one stomach, when clearly I need at least two to dine here!! The roo tartare = OMG The buffalo carpaccio = OMFG Peri peri fish wings = I'm running out of acronyms that would cover something like, 'holy hell, are you kidding me? How do they taste so good?' The pearl meat is divine. The gin-cured mackerel? STOP, my mouth is watering. The braised leek? You had me at hello! NT grilled prawns? How TF did you make that taste SO good!?!
The staff are friendly, helpful and seem quite passionate about the place, which always indicates a well-run business.
I forgot to mention the cocktails, which are made beautifully. Just eat there, okay? I couldn't give a higher recommendation.
