About Acquolina

If cravings lean toward classic Italian fare, head to Acquolina on Ocean Beach Road in Sorrento. With cheery yellow walls adorned with authentic Mediterranean artwork and red trimmed table settings, a warm, cosy ambiance entices diners to settle in with a glass of vino from an extensive and exclusive imported wine list. Choose from an ever-evolving specials menu, or regular daily dishes, such as starters like beef carpaccio with truffle oil and rocket salad; or perhaps house cured salmon with gin, juniper and dill, served with ciabatta. Pasta lovers can twirl a fork around squid ink spaghetti with calamari and cherry tomatoes, or house special open ravioli with chestnut pasta, prawns and porcini mushrooms. Leave room for a decadent dessert of white and dark chocolate mousse with coulis.

As soon as we stepped through Acquolina doors we felt like we were back in Italy. We were welcomed with excitement and happiness by passionate staff who clearly love delivering good food and service. The wine list has the best of Italy and the Penisula on offer and the pasta melts in your mouth, your taste buds are left graving seconds although your belly is full. In fact we loved our first dinning experience so much we returned again to Acquolina the following evening. Cannot wait to bring our children along on our next visit as they will no doubt love the food and the energy of the staff. Acquolina is a piece of Italy in wonderful Sorrento, dreaming already of our next visit.

What a fabulous dining experience to stumble across quite by accident. Authentic Italian food, coupled with genuinely enthusiastic and passionate staff who clearly love their craft. The owners were welcoming, charismatic and warm, and the service was fast. Highly recommended and shall be on my favorite list for this area!

Flavoursome, colourful, lively and noisy. This is northern Italian food at its best with serious consideration for the seasons and fresh produce. The wine list is impressive and full of unique Italian grape styles with some Pensinsula locals. Daily specials augment a good homely menu.

A bruschetta with pumpkin, thyme and goats cheese is simple and masterly as is a stunning fettucine with proscuitto and mushroom - just the right amount of yeast flavours from dried and reconstituted porcini mushrooms complemented by the saltiness of good honest proscuitto.

Having just returned from Italy, Acquolina's flavours are distinctly authentic, with memorable mains such as slow cooked belly of veal with polenta, and roasted whole spatchcock with grapes and gratin potatoes.

We particularly loved the housemade Gelato Artigianale presenting the flavours of real vanilla, pistachio and dark chocolate.

This is the essence of a cafe with character and replicates the informality and passion of a family-run cafe with regional flavours of astonishing originality. We will come back to Sorrento and Acquolina. Bravo.
