After 136 years of continual use, this World Heritage Listed maximum security prison is now open to the public for prison day tours, torch light tours and tunnel tours.
Opened in 1887 to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Fully restored, it is a fine example of the classical architecture of the time.
The atmosphere is reminiscent of a Mediterranean fishing village with anchorage to a 150 strong fishing fleet.
