What's In Season For September

What's In Season For September

Spring has sprung and with it the expectation of milder weather, bursts of colour and a plethora of new season produce. Say goodbye to those long Winter nights spent curled up by the fire and welcome the allure of time spent outdoors; warm rays of sun upon your face and quick, light, invigorating meals.

It's also the month to celebrate all the Dads out there...say thank you for a job well done with a meal out at Dad's favourite restaurant, or cook up a storm at home with this month's produce.

What's in Season for September

Green is the new black this season, making its mark with the return of Asian greens, asparagus and avocados – ideal for serving raw in the Spring time picnic weather. Combined with the flavours of mushrooms, broccoli and ginger, these fresh vegetables can be artfully incorporated into recipes like a Japanese-style bok choy salad or flower, basil, tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad, to kick start taste buds into Spring mode.

While for Dad, how about serving up a breakfast in bed of poached eggs, spinach, prosciutto and Parmesan; or spinach and mushroom stuffed rolled pork loin with spicy apple jam and his favourite sides.

For dessert, opt for the fresh citrus tang of Maggie Beer's lemon tart and invoke memories of picnics at the park on balmy days.
