Fishing in the Great Southern

With the Great Southern region having a largely Mediterranean climate, it goes without saying that leisure and tourism each play significant parts in the region's appeal - and what's leisure without a spot of fishing? Albany is a major fishing centre within the Great Southern region, from boisterous surf waters to quiet sheltered waterways, where herring are rich and autumn is prime fishing time. Bremer Bay and its vast beaches also offer fine fishing hotspots, where dhu fish, pink snapper, salmon and king george whiting are the regular catches, with squid coming in of an evening.
