Freycinet is easily the most picturesque spot in Tasmania ... don't forget your camera and be ready for the experience of a lifetime. It's quite remote by mainland standards but that just adds to the beauty as it's never packed with tourists to an uncomfortable standard. Plenty of excellent accommodation to choose from however we weren't that impressed with the Freycinet Lodge (rooms needed upgrading or, at least, a refresh in the decor)
No, it’s no illusion. Freycinet Peninsula really is that picturesque. As a result, it comes as no surprise that it’s most wondrous attraction, Wineglass Bay, has been labelled one of the world’s top ten beaches. Recognised as one of Tasmania’s most iconic destinations, Wineglass Bay is located on the stunning and pure Freycinet Peninsula, an area full of turquoise waters, scenic surrounds and a cool, crisp atmosphere that invigorates the soul. Freycinet is a Tasmanian golden getaway full of outdoor activities, luxurious lodges and gourmet produce. Spectacular coastal scenery is the forte of Freycinet and the peninsula prides itself on its awe-worthy views, most notably that of the exquisite Wineglass Bay.
When it comes to activities of the great outdoors, Tasmania has it covered. The Freycinet Peninsula offers a range of active holiday adventures, including rock climbing, sailing and bushwalking. Start the day off with a bang and set out on foot to the Wineglass Bay lookout, giving yourself a couple of hours to make your way down to the below beach. White bellied sea eagles, Tasmanian devils and wallabies may join you, so remain camera ready. If you wish to retreat to Wineglass Bay with a wine glass, then take the foodies approach and indulge in a guided walk to Wineglass Bay, complete with a fine banquet of Tasmania's finest wines, crayfish, scallops and oysters. If able to, try to visit Freycinet Peninsula and its wonderful Wineglass Bay in the warmer months so you're not tempted to retreat indoors. Once you're there, you'll realise what all the hype is about.
