Information & Tasting Notes
Find some of the rockiest, driest ground around, in an area that can have the lowest rainfall in the North Island of New Zealand and you will find Strugglers Flat Pinot vineyard. As the name 'Strugglers Flat' was given to the flat infertile land at the bottom of the more fertile hills and were given to the returning serviceman from the war. They had the last laugh however as this is perfect land for growing grapes. Strugglers Flat is exclusively dedicated to wines made from the Pinot Noir grape.
A remarkable vintage has produced a wine which captures the essence of Central Otago pinot noir with thyme, cherry and red berries all abundant on the nose backed up with ripe fruit, ample weight and a silken tannin structure on the palate. Gold at the NZ International Wine Show, this little gem comes with a huge track record: "The wine is deep ruby red in colour with ripe berry and plum on the nose along with a smattering of spice and dried herb. The palate is supported with a backbone of fine tannin complemented with flesh and fruit sweetness.
