About Swan Valley

The Swan Valley is Perth's premier wine and food destination and Western Australia's oldest wine growing region, situated just 25 minutes from Perth City. The Swan Valley's award winning Food and Wine Trail is a 32-kilometer scenic loop encompassing more than 150 places to eat , drink and be merry including relaxed winery cafes, busy breweries and distilleries, fine restaurants and – a trademark of the valley – many roadside stalls selling just-picked local produce. Not that the Swan Valley is just about eating and drinking. The region is also home to world-class art galleries an array of family friendly activities including a wildlife park, cycle paths, heritage walk trails and Aboriginal cultural experiences. As the states oldest wine producer the wines produced by the Swan Valley range from verdelho – a valley specialty – to other white styles, full bodied reds and some of the best fortifieds in the world. Ultimately, what makes the Swan Valley such a special place to explore is its people. Visit a cellar door and, chances are, you’ll be greeted by the owners themselves, eager to share a yarn about the region’s 170 years of viticulture.

When to Visit Swan Valley

The Swan Valley is a lush, fertile valley with a warm Mediterranean climate. In Summer the temperatures average around 23°C, there is plenty of sunshine and roadside stores are loaded with fresh produce. Autumn is blessed with warm days and cool nights. During the winter months the Swan Valley experiences it highest rainfalls and temperatures average around between 10 - 19 Co. It’s perfect for enjoying the warmth of an open fire and a glass of bold red. Spring is a wonderful time of year when the flowers are blooming and the grape vines bud. The early mornings are still fresh, but transform into magnificent warm sunny days.

Getting Around Swan Valley

The Swan Valley is located just 25 minutes drive east of Perth. The most popular way to visit the wineries and attractions of the valley are by car however you can see the area with a tour, by horse and carriage, bicycle or even on a river cruise. The Roads throughout the Valley are first-rate and the signage is good.
