ABOUT XANADU WINES
Xanadu has a long history of producing wines of distinction. One of the leading wine producers in the iconic Margaret River region, the quality and styles of our wines reflect our history, terrior and our simple yet true wine making philosophy. The climate and landscape that make this a great vineyard also create the perfect setting in which to enjoy our food and, above all, our wine.

OUR RESTAURANT AT XANADU WINES
The rustic design of our spacious restaurant with natural timbers, local stone, high beamed ceilings and magnificent double sided fireplace is cosy and welcoming. The open plan layout lets guests enjoy the surrounding vineyard, garden, award winning cuisine and wines; the perfect recipe for that long, lazy winery lunch.

Xanadu's restaurant is one of the most awarded in the region. Highlights include WA Tourism Winery of the Year 2007, WA Winery Restaurant of the Year 2008, Gold Plate Best Restaurant Within a Winery 2003, 2007 and Best Licensed Dining, Country 2004 - 2011 and awarded with the Catering Institute of Australia's Prix D'Honneur for Licensed Dining Restaurant - Country 2007 & 2011. The key to our award winning restaurant has been not just the uncompromising focus on fresh local and seasonal produce, but also the setting.

FUNCTIONS
The indoor/outdoor area can cater for anything from a private party for 15 people up to a gala event for 250 - weddings, parties or just a simple, memorable lunch for two.

DESTINATION XANADU – HOW TO GET HERE
Xanadu is situated 280km south-west of Perth. It is one of the closest wineries to the Margaret River township. After traveling through the town along the Bussell Highway, turn right at the roundabout onto Boodjidup Road. Follow Boodijup Road for about 4km until you see the Xanadu sign and iron gates on the right.

XANADU WINES HISTORY
By 1977 Drs John and Eithne Lagan had planted the first vines in what is now one of the region's oldest vineyards. They named it Xanadu after the poem Kubla Khan by poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Xanadu now has a long history of producing wines of distinction. By the early 1980s it was already winning awards and had begun establishing a reputation as one of the finest wineries in the region, a reputation that is being consolidated since the purchase of Xanadu Wines by the Rathbone family in 2005.

XANADU WINES VITICULTURE
What makes a great vineyard? Climate and soil, but more than anything it's the determination, dedication and vision of the people who operate it. Fruit selection and the harvesting are perhaps the two most important decisions to be made in the life of a wine (apart, of course, from who you share it with).

Xanadu is one of the oldest vineyards in Margaret River, with 85 hectares now planted. Margaret River is surrounded by the ocean on three sides; in fact, the Indian and the Southern Oceans surround us. Warm growing seasons with cooling sea breezes create the perfect maritime climate.

XANADU WINEMAKING
Our philosophy is strongly held, but extremely simple: grow great fruit, pick it at the right time and guide it through to the bottle without too much intervention. Winemaker Glenn Goodall has been at Xanadu since 1999 and our wines express his personality, and ours. The focus is always on offering lively fruit characters with depth and precision, and styles which allow the distinct personality of Margaret River to shine through.

Our wines are not contrived, but are gently eased into being. Natural fermentation and non-interventional winemaking have become winemaking clichés, but it's a simple formula, and it works when you have great fruit.

The food was exceptional when I recently visited this fantastic winery. I particularly enjoyed my quail with white bean puree, chestnut & Pedro Ximenez shallots, matched perfectly with the Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2008. The earthy yet contemporary setting instills the essence of Margaret River. Bon appetite!
