Settlers Tavern Overview

Built in 1977, The Settlers Tavern is one of the original Margaret River hubs catering to locals and the surf community and is ever evolving to ensure that international tourists also feel right at home. With the panoramic tree line view visible in all directions, the front outdoor dining area is coveted while the rear alfresco area is preferred by those who relish in a little privacy; the large interior lounge is a welcoming area for all. The inside of Settlers Tavern is peppered with community oriented décor, including framed posters of famous shows and surf events lining the original brick walls. They’re always serving beer on tap (also 100s of bottles), world class wine, pub favourites and Mod Oz cuisine such as Margaret River Wagyu Beef.

In September, actor Sam Worthington and the cast and crew of Hollywood film production ‘Drift' wrapped up their shoot in Margaret River. Sam, his family, and friends became regulars at Settlers Tavern during their stay in Margaret River. Worthington, a WA native from the Perth suburb of Rockingham, is best known as the star of ‘Avatar'; he was sporting a shaggy head of hair, a beanie, a beard, and a woolly sweater. Settlers Tavern is located in the heart of Margaret River, on the main street Bussell Highway. Driving south through town, it is adjacent to the IGA supermarket. A large beer garden fronts the street, with large white architectural umbrellas. It's the perfect spot to chill out and watch the world go by.

Settlers Tavern has jumped head first into the brewing business starting up the Margaret River Ale Company in early 2011. The first brew is a Belgian style Wit Beer, dubbed the "White Ale". The slightly cloudy, creamy headed elixir is made the old fashioned way, naturally fermented and keg conditioned. It is available on tap, exclusively at Settlers Tavern.

SETTLERS TAVERN MENU

The menu is not a typical pub menu. Whilst there are many pub favourites, the menu spans the globe including international flavours such as authentic Indian curry, Mexican tacos, Malaysian laksa, and true Italian spaghetti Bolognese. The regional tasting plate features Margaret River venison, local cheese, bread, olives and olive oil. We are the place to go for shucked-to-order oysters that will rival the best anywhere. Close attention is given to all food sources for sustainable, organic and local produce wherever possible. Vegetarian and gluten-free foods are highlighted and featured collectively on a separate menu.

The wine list at Settlers Tavern is legendary, having made the Australian Top-Ten list in the Australian Financial Review in 2010. There are over 300 bottle selections and 25 wines by-the-glass sourced from Australia and the world. There is a strong representation of Margaret River's most exciting wines and vignerons and the wine list has won Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazines Best Pub Restaurant Wine List in Australia for three consecutive years, and was also short-listed with Sydney's Glass Restaurant and Aria for the nation's best wines-by-the-glass program.

There are 16 choices of tap beers including the Tavern's own house brew; the 50-plus bottled beer selections including great microbrews and beers from around the world.
