Wyndham, located on Cambridge Gulf, the most northerly port in WA, was established during the Halls Creek goldrush of the 1880's. With dwindling gold finds, cattle became the major product of the Kimberley and the world's longest cattle drives were undertaken by pioneers of a primary industry that now exports beef around the world. Wyndham is also the port for the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, centred on Kununurra 108km to the east.
