Mona Castle Hotel Overview

The Mona Castle Hotel is a sure candidate for an endangered species list – a small, friendly, dependable local pub with all the trimmings.

Nestled in quiet, suburban Austin Street in Melbourne's blossoming inner-West, the Mona Castle has great, affordable food and a cosy dining room to enjoy it in, a landscaped beer garden in which to sip icy cold beer, full TAB and eftpos facilities. But it's the community atmosphere here that locals love and makes it a great place to catch up casually with family, friends and colleagues.

Names after a Scots castle, the Mona Castle has been in business for 133 years. With its classic exterior and the old-world charm of its 70-seat dinning availability, it certainly looks the part, but proprietors Gary and Tracy Clough have worked hard to ensure the pub's beauty isn't just skin-deep.

There's an extensive menu of great pub standards, weekly specials and delicious homemade desserts. Chef Simon's Chicken Breast is the most popular dish with regulars – juicy oven-roasted chicken filled with mushrooms, roasted pumpkin, spinach, basil pesto, feta and bocconcini cheese, served on creamy mashed potatoes with seasonal vegies. Locals have also got wise to the fantastic value of Tuesday's $10 pasta special and Wednesday's impressive $12 pot and parma deal, as well as Saturday's big, reviving breakfast.

To accompany the great food, there's a good selection of wines, including many available by the glass. Snuggle in for a wintry afternoon by the fireplace in the dining room, or enjoy your meal with a cool glass of bubbly under the stars in the beer garden on a balmy summer evening.
Kids are well catered for, highchairs available and wheelchair access has been arranged to make this a family-friendly pub that welcome all-comers. The hospitable atmosphere also makes it a great place for a function and it has hosted everything from birthday parties to baby showers, business lunches and, of course, relaxed Christmas parties.

The Mona Castle is justly proud of its beer; not only is there a great ranges, including Pure Blonde and Coopers Pale Ale on tap, but it's served in chilled glasses making it, they reckon, the coldest beer in the west.
