When you hear the name Gordon Ramsay attached to a restaurant, you know it must be good. Unlike some other fine dining restaurants the best thing about this place is that it’s not intimidating. maze Melbourne is elegant, yet informal & relaxed. It's Gordon Ramsay’s debut on the Australian restaurant scene & headed by Chef John Lawson, who worked with the man himself for a decade in the UK & US. Expect dishes to be fresh, innovative & delicious. A 7 course chef’s menu designed to give you a taste of all the highlights on the a la carte menu is highly recommended. Offering dishes like Ravioli of Southern Rock Lobster with avocado, macadamia & bisque, the food is well worth the experience here.

Filled with natural light during the day and softly candlelit at night, maze Melbourne offers the ideal combination of a stylish and inviting dining room, accomplished food and perceptive service.

maze breaks the formal traditions of French cuisine, adopting local Australian influences in tasting-sized dishes. Order individually or sample multiple dishes to create an innovative dining experience.

CHEF
Chef John Lawson began his career at the 2 Michelin starred Le Manoir Aux Quat's in the Oxfordshire countryside under the guidance of Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones. He also trained under Daniel Boulud at his fine dining, 3 Michelin starred restaurant in New York. John first started working for Gordon Ramsay in New York as part of the team involved with opening of The London. After 3 years John took on the role of Head Chef at maze Melbourne from its inception, before becoming Executive Chef in early 2011.

The restaurant is beautiful and relaxed- I would expect nothing less from Ramsay. Fantastic furniture and fitting and tables well spaced so you arent eating on top of the other patrons. The food itself is artwork and looks spectacular - Josh Emmet has done himself proud. Would recommend the vennison, lamb and "tongue and cheek" in particular. The only quite disappointing dish was the chicken skin wrapped trout which is either too delicate for my tastebuds or bland - however you prefer to describe it. Service was friendly and well informed altough we did have to ask twice to have our wine glasses topped up from our bottle kept at the waiters table. Overall a lovely night - just wasnt't quite enough to make me go back. But I loved it because of the slight tinge of rose on my glasses due to my admiration for Gordon Ramsay. If you love strong flavours and "wow" moments when you are eating out fine dining, this wont be your favourite restaurant. But I still think Maze is worth a visit.... but once is probably enough.

Don't pay any attention to trumpt up ill informed and no experienced food writers , who are just jealous of Ramsays success...The food here is brilliant. It only suffers from being in the casino! It just lacks that personal touch.It runs like clockwork. We will return!

We thouroughly enjoyed the dining experience here. We had a great table by the window. The only negative I observed was tables located east of the bar area on the marble floor on the way to the toilets. I would not have been happy to have been seated here and not in the restaurant proper.
