Established two decades ago & still popular as ever, Vegie Bar in Fitzroy proves that healthy dining needn’t be a sacrifice. Healthy, affordable food ‘for body, mind and soul’ is the premise behind this funky, rough around the edges vegetarian eatery, which attracts the full cross-section of Melbourne society. Tasty, generous & diverse enough to tempt even the most devoted meat-eater, Vegie Bar’s menu could include a lemongrass & ginger broth with seasonal vegetables, Asian greens, tofu & sesame wontons or handmade fettuccine tossed with Yarra Valley truffles, Bulgarian feta, spinach, basil, pine nut & parmesan – ideally washed down with a fresh smoothie or organic or biodynamic beer or wine.

Vegie Bar is a café/restaurant/bar composed of three dining areas, an outdoor courtyard, and a cosy bar area housed in an old stable built sometime in the late 19th century.

Vegie Bar sees itself as an eating house with a focus on vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Its aim is to provide "healthy, wholesome food at affordable prices in a relaxed and casual environment".

There are 50+ dishes on the menu, plus daily specials that are inspired by cuisines the world over. All dishes are freshly prepared and cooked to order with minimum human involvement from preparation through to cooking, resulting in honest hearty food. Over the last couple of years, Vegie Bar has moved towards providing more gluten free, vegan and raw/living food dishes - but always with a focus on providing tasty and wholesome dishes.

There are freshly squeezed juices and smoothies as well as various health tonics available. Vegie Bar is also fully licensed with a broad selection of organic and biodynamic wines, plus many local and imported beers. The service aims to be friendly, informative and efficient which matches its relaxed surrounds.

Vegie Bar is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available on weekends.

Some of the best vegetarian and vegan meals out there. Can get a bit crowded at times but worth the wait. Great relaxed and bohemian atmosphere with a great set of rotating specials and a great range of juices. Mains are around 20 dollars which makes it excellent value. The curries are to die for!
