The Brix Bistrot Overview

Classic incarnated as contemporary seems to be the theme running throughout The Brix Café & Bistrot, tucked down a Fitzroy backstreet. Inside, industrial elements like white brick walls, polished concrete floors and exposed plumbing are softened by wooden shingles, sleek black bistro chairs, and an intimate ambience that’s welcomingly unpretentious. They follow it up with inspired modern French creations precisely executed and artistically arranged on squares of black slate: Cured ocean trout nestled alongside Nicoise salad, for example. Throw in a well considered list of (mostly French) wines and it seems The Brix has all the ingredients for a uniquely memorable meal. Please phone to

The Brix opened its doors in August 2011. A small contemporary Bistrot, it offers beautiful food in an equally beautiful space. Classic French is skillfully combined with contemporary cooking techniques. Suppliers are thoughtfully selected and only the highest quality seasonal produce is used.

Established and run by two passionate and creative young designers, The Brix is all about having fun and creating inimitable experiences that you remember long after you leave the table. All the usual suspects are there, we've just done them a bit differently.

Took my 73 year old Mother for her birthday dinner. Loved the decor, stylish, clean lines, soft industrial feel with loads of warmth. Typical French Bistro menu but quirky too. Had lots of questions for the waiter who was so into the food it was fantastic. Mum was delighted. The food was cooked perfectly, PERFECTLY! Loved the slate tile inspired plates. Everything was great and accompanied by really funky music that we all enjoyed in the background. Mum has since downloaaded it from iTunes to her iPod! The blue cheese with an orange and carrot marmalade was divine, and the others enjoyed their orange tarts on frangipani base. Can't wait to go back.
