Owner Sunee and staff take you on a journey of traditional tastes accompanied by friendly service, welcoming you with typical Thai hospitality. The menu is brimming with a range of exquisite flavours and well-priced options, complemented by a quality wine list. Recommended dishes include the Goong Ob-Mo-Din, whole prawns cooked in a traditional clay pot with bean thread noodles.

Located in the heart of Fitzroy on busy Brunswick Street, this iconic establishment has had the same owner, Sunee, and chef for over 20 years, which is illustrative of their successful formula - a menu brimming with a range of exquisite flavours and well-priced generous portions, accompanied by a quality wine list! The chef presents an exciting array of many mouth-watering options, including a number of gluten free dishes.

For a truly authentic Thai experience start with the traditional Thom Yum Goong, a spicy hot and sour soup with fish fillets, chilli, lemongrass, kaffir lime, mushrooms and lemongrass.

Titillate your tastebuds with the Pla Ob Sa-Mun-Prai for a main course, created using rockling fillets steamed and lightly cooked with lemon juice, fish sauce, chilli, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and fresh basil leaves, served in a clay pot with hot chilli sauce. The red and green curry dishes are laced with a diverse range of sublime flavours and leave you longing for more; the secret is the curry paste which is made uniquely by the chef. The Gluten Free menu is available separately with 10 different options.

The wine list has been carefully selected to complement the food. Sunee has put together an extensive list not seen in many Thai restaurants. There is a very broad selection of fine wines and a very well balanced selection of boutique wines one would normally only find in fine dining establishments.

My husband and I are locals and have been eating at Thai Thani for the past 10 years, mid week/weekends. Consistently, Thai Thani offers a good, (and inexpensive) dining experience. We have never been disappointed. Whatever time we drop by it is always busy, but can find a table (best to book for Saturday night). The menu consists of traditional Thai dishes (all delicious) and interesting specials. The food is fresh, well prepared/presented, and arrives without delay. The service is prompt and friendly. We enjoy the intimate, casual atmosphere of the shop front space (more room upstairs) and we like the freshness of the table settings (table cloth with fresh white paper covering). BYO wine, increasingly rare these days, also adds to the appeal and affordability of Thai Thani.
