Svago Overview

Svago is an enticing Italian restaurant in a premier position in High Street, Kew and offers a mouth-watering selection of dishes intended for sharing. Svago means ‘to relax and let go'.

The idea of Svago developed from a phrase of owner Cesare Tabacco's late father, who used to say to him as a child ‘vado a svagare'... Cesare didn't understand what this meant and asked his mother what he was saying, because Svago was not a commonly used word. She would reply, ‘it means that even if the house collapses or it is the end of the world.... DON'T WAKE HIM!!!' i.e., he wanted complete relaxation.

Svago has been created with foresight base on nearly 30 years experience in the Hospitality industry in Melbourne, Italy, Greece and Germany.

THE STYLE OF SVAGO
Cesare has a dream about how an Italian eatery should be, and as much as possible, all things Italian and ‘Italianissimo' are always at the forefront of his mind. Svago has been created to bring a slice of Italy to Kew and Melbourne through the mediums of culture, food, beverage and ambience....you probably feel like you are there!

THE AMBIENCE AT SVAGO
Offering an intimate dining room, with a separate chic corner bar and bare wooden tables placed on the concrete floor; simple and attractive as the food on its menu. The white walls are hung with authentic artwork, and there's a blackboard stretched across one wall showcasing current specials with messages scrawled on it, from happy customers, offering a personal touch.

THE FOOD AT SVAGO
The Svago style re-introduces the philosophy of the ‘ritual of dining' rather that eating just ‘to fill your stomach'. It embraces the ideology of sharing dishes with your chosen company and have the opportunity to taste a variety of dishes, rather that just one or two in entrée and main course format.

Indulge in delicious stuzzichini, baccala mantecato and the slow roast pork, and definitely keep a spot for the decadent desserts on offer. Savour flavoursome Italian wines and beers and richly aromatic coffee variations. Additionally a sharp selection of wines are available by the glass, again providing the opportunity to try different wines without the obligation to purchase a bottle.
