Port Fairy is a fishing town on the eastern headland of Portland Bay, and is the second-oldest settlement in Victoria. Originally a whaling station, the town was founded in 1835 and still retains many mid-nineteenth century buildings. At the mouth of the Moyne River is an old fort and signal station site, Battery Hill, while connected to the town by causeway is the lighthouse on Griffiths Island.
