We thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely 4 hour lunch on Monday 3 January 2011. The restaurant has maintained its standard and quality following a recent change of ownership.
Pettavel Winery & Restaurant is a truly special place for that very special occasion. It was very appropriate for us to celebrate the birthday of a member of our party, on holidays from Japan, a restaurant owner who stocks Pettavel wines in his restaurants. The restaurant overlooks acres of lush grapevines, the décor is modern and stylish. The open-plan kitchen displays good-humoured staff skilfully preparing inventive dishes.
This multi-award winning restaurant offers a $110 for a 8-course degustation menu, and $145 for 8 courses with matching wines. 5-course degustation is $80, or $110 with matching wines. Food is well-presented, blending a plethora of fresh ingredients. The Ox Cheek was incredibly brittle and saturated with flavour, following many hours of cooking. Salmon with Chickpeas, Tomato and Fennel delicious. The Pork Belly was also well cooked and prepared. Morton Bay Bug with Avocado, Grapefruit and Basil was scrumptious. The Quail was fried in a crispy batter. Pettavel Cheeses were creamy and rich, delicious with banana bread. Dessert of Kaffir Lime Jelly with Peanut Brittle, Lychee and Coconut was an appropriately cooling end to an excellent meal. For those who prefer, an a-la-carte menu is also available. For those such inclined, I would highly recommend the ‘Sher’ Wagyu Porterhouse, which is to die for.
Service is impeccable. Our lovely waittress impressed us with her knowledge of ingredients of each dish and how it was prepared, totally from memory. She patiently informed us of what were eating, and asked each member our party individually whether they would like a slice of bread in between courses. A choice of 3 different breads went extremely well with their own home grown dipping olive oil. Overall, an outstanding dining experience, one to return to time and time again.
