With more than 30 years of tomato growing behind them, Ian and Marilyn Lanyon offer not just award-winning green tomato pickles, spreads, dressings and marinades, but also the chance to spend a day out on their working farm in Boort. Informal and engaging, Simply Tomatoes tours treat visitors to a true farm gate encounter. Enjoy morning or afternoon tea before seeing where and how Simply Tomatoes’ products and Aussie Wool Quilts’ 100% pure woollen quilts are made, meeting the Lanyons' menagerie of animals and browsing the showroom/shop. Also offered are a variety of full and half day tours of local farms, wineries and/or attractions.

WELCOME TO SIMPLY TOMATOES - OUR STORY

Over almost thirty years of Lanyon's growing tomatoes, Marilyn developed many recipes from red and green tomatoes. But, there was one stand out favourite for family and friends – Simply Green Tomatoes. So after extensive market research domestically and overseas, Ian and Marilyn began Simply Tomatoes journey in 2002.

The family finished supplying the processing factories and became not only the grower, but the manufacturer and the marketer of their specialty green tomato products; selling to the global market directly from their farm at Boort in Central Victoria.

With the development of farming technology, one acre of tomatoes grown with chemical free drip irrigation uses 30% less water than flood irrigation and produces 40 to 60 tonnes per acre. Processing is undertaken in a modern factory located on the farm with a large underground storage facility providing a cool and stable environment for the storage of bulk product. Keeping things natural, maximising use of local resources, all assist in minimising our carbon footprint.

Simply Tomatoes has diversified on farm adding other sectors to the business. Tourism Accredited, many visitors are welcomed to Simply Tomatoes and enjoy a tour of on farm manufacturing operations of green tomato products and the making of Aussie Wool Quilts from local wool, direct from 'the ewe to you'. Day tours are also co-ordinated by Simply Tomatoes for visitors to the area to enjoy other tourist attractions in and around Boort with a local guide.

All this was made possible through the desire, passion and determination of a great team of family, friends, employees, fellow manufacturers and government bodies.

With the motto "take small steps and think big", Marilyn's dream is alive and thriving.


SOME OF OUR PRODUCTS

Simply Green Tomatoes: Pickled green tomatoes in extra virgin olive oil, oregano and garlic. (Served out of the oil, which can be used separately.) Ingredients - Green tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic & oregano.

Simply Spread: Simply Spread is a blended form of Simply Green Tomatoes. Ingredients - Green tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic & oregano.

Simply For Salads: A salad size portion of Simply Dressing along with some Simply Green Tomatoes to toss through your salad for that little bit extra. Ingredients - Vinegar, garlic & oregano. Green tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil

Simply Dressing: A simple vinegarette with salt and infused with green tomatoes. Ingredients Vinegar, garlic & oregano.


SUGGESTED RECIPES

SIMPLE DIP OR SPREAD
2 tablespoons SIMPLY SPREAD
1 cup Light Cream Cheese

METHOD: Blend the spread & cream cheese until smooth! That's it. Use as a dip or place in a piping bag and use swirls for garnish. Use as a spread on sandwiches.

*This recipe is quick and easy and SO tasty.


SiMPLE NIBBLE MUSHROOMS

10 medium sized field mushrooms
10 slices of SIMPLY GREEN TOMATOES
1 tablespoon of feta or tasty cheese
1 tablespoon of breadcrumbs

METHOD: Remove stems from mushrooms and wipe outer with a damp cloth or peel. Place one slice of SIMPLY GREEN TOMATOES in the cavity of each mushroom. Crumble a little cheese over tomato slice and sprinkle the tops with breadcrumbs and place the mushrooms on a griller tray.
Grill slowly until the mushrooms are a little tender and the topping is lightly browned.

*A 'simple' pre-dinner nibble or serve as an entrée
