Greater Hobart and its surrounding towns are an intriguing blend of heritage & lifestyle, scenery & vibrant culture. Hobart is a truly beautiful city defined by the river and sea. It is Australia's second oldest capital and the one which has retained the most architectural elegance from colonial times. For the holiday maker it is not only a well-equipped shopping & entertainment centre but also a great base from which to explore the spectacular scenery surrounding the Derwent Valley. Discover the fruit orchards of the Huon Valley abundant with seasonal fruits; take a ferry across to the gentle countryside and wild coastlines, quiet beaches and roaring surf, lighthouses and a rich heritage of Bruny Island; or delve into the fascinating convict ruins of the Tasman Peninsula, home to Australia’s most significant historic site - Port Arthur. On your travels enjoy superb cool-climate wines and savour some of the local specialties - plums, cherries, apples, octopus, oysters, quail & venison.

Getting Around Hobart and Surrounds
Hobart Airport is located just about 20 kilometers from the city centre or a 15 minute drive. If coming by car, Bass Strait is the sea-road to Tasmania. The route is operated by two super fast ships; Spirit of Tasmania I and II. These vessels offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport seven days a week. Follow the Midland Highway south until you hit Hobart. Getting around Hobart is easy - the city is serviced by a variety of public and private transport options. Organised tours can take you out of the city to most of the major attractions, or alternatively hire a car and do it at you own pace.
