Ipswich is in the South East Queensland Country Region located in the state of Queensland. The post code for Ipswich is 4305.
Situated on the Bremer River, Ipswich is built on one of Queenslands largest coalfields and is the biggest industrial complex outside the capital. The origin of the Citys industrial development relates to the early discovery of coal in 1842. Historically, a small penal outstation was established in 1827 to work the limestone deposits which had been discovered in the area. Limestone was shipped by barge and used in the early buildings then under construction in Brisbane.
