I have been to Alleys restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed the food and service and been impressed at the high quality.
When I saw a degustation dinner advertised to showcase their new menu, I thought I'd treat my husband and I to a nice night out.
So on Friday we wined and dined on seven courses with the majority of produce from the local area and all complemented by wines from a local winery. It was set up outside on the balcony overlooking the water which added such a serene atmosphere to the event.
It was such a lovely night out and a great way to sample the new menu. I would strongly recommend the chicken wrapped in prosciutto and haloumi cheese and the Asisan style duck (although it was all very delicious).

Possibly the worst dish I have ever been served in a restaurant. I ordered the Laksa and was expecting something typical with a light mixture of coconut milk and stock soup with what sounded like yummy Morton Bay Bugs and Barramundi. Unfortunately there was a phenomenal amount of oil on the dish - over a centimetre clear layer at the top of the bowl. It ruined the taste of everything and left me with a horrible feeling in my stomach after trying 2-3 mouthfulls. The staff were great and agreed that it was overly oily (although the manager later insisted that this was how they always cook the dish!) and replaced it with another dish. This time the chicken. What another disappointment. A bland piece of chicken sitting on two triangular lumps of bland polenta. There was a small attempt at some kind of nut stuffing, but the skin was on and the flavouring underwhelming. Not restaurant fair - more like what I would expect an inexperienced cook to achieve at home when learning how to cook chicken. We are not sure how this restaurant achieved rave reviews, but we were surprised by the low quality of the meals. We didn't stay for dessert and won't be visiting this establishment again.

I am on the Gold Coast on Holiday, come up every year from Melbourne and always check your site. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening out at the RSL, dined at Alleys restaurant and couldn't fault it, will definitly go again!
