Capricorn Coast Restaurant, Accommodation & Travel Guide

About Capricorn Coast

Home to a throng of award winning resorts, a host of visitor attractions and an abundance of undiscovered treasures, the Capricorn Coast is a truly unspoilt paradise full of relaxation and adventure. Fossick for sapphires, gold and 'thunder-eggs'; discover limestone caves; uncover ancient Aboriginal Rock Art; be witness to baby crocodiles as they hatch from their eggs; follow the flight of the small bent wing bats; enjoy camp drafts; picnic races; or a taste of outback life on a farm stay. Yeppoon is the Coast's major town, which has retained its village style appeal, yet offers a variety of wonderful restaurants, accommodation and shops. Be sure to visit the towns of Rockhampton, Gladstone, Angus Waters and the historic town of 1770, touched by the legacy of Captain James Cook. And for a true getaway experience, the popular island escapes of Great Keppel Island, Heron Island, Lady Elliot Island and Lady Musgrave Island beckon just off the Coast.

When to Visit Capricorn Coast

The climate here is subtropical. From November to March humidity is generally high, but sea breezes bring relief along the coast. Winter is mild and sunny with cool nights (July and August). The best time to visit is from September to November. Tropical storms can occur from November to April (mostly during January to March).

Getting Around Capricorn Coast

Rockhampton Airport is the largest regional airport in the area, located about 5km from Rockhampton’s CBD. Rail services also operate along the eastern seaboard. Both Rockhampton and Gladstone are located on the main North Coast Railway between Brisbane and Cairns. By road the Coral Coast is accessed via the Bruce Hwy from the North & South, and the Capricorn Hwy from the West. Several coach companies service Capricorn, with regular services to Brisbane and other parts of the state. Taxis and regular bus services operate in and between the major towns and the beach. Boat services will get you across to the Islands.
