Earthy robust peasant food and nice Spanish Latin American beers and wines. Lovely owner with an interesting story to tell. And it's just down the road for us.

So looking forward to a Mexican meal in Oz and Villa Maria almost made it happen. This place was buzzing on Sat night with an 8:30 reservation. Entree was guac, black beans, fresh salsa and chips (Trio of Dips) for $18. The chips were cold, greasy and burnt. For a table of 4, there was only a handful of chips. We asked for a another order of chips - $4. The dips were good, but that is to be expected at any Mexican restaurant. Dinner was various tacos ($7 each) and the Mexican Enchilada plate ($22). The pork/pineapple and fish tacos were fresh delicious and the enchilada plate was bland and average. Ordered sodas with dinner, never received them, but were definitely charged for them. The band started around 9 pm and they were great except for the fact that they added another layer of noise to an already noisy experience. It's a small space with lots of diners. Hard to have a conversation without yelling - there is a lot going on. The service was non existent and very erratic. They weren't communicating with each other or the kitchen which made it uncomfortable for everyone. I am very sad the dinner ended up being quite disappointing. I know I have high standards for Mexican Cuisine being from Southern Colorado in the US, but the price was ultimately the tipping point. Six tacos, 2 enchiladas with rice and beans, three dips of 125 mls each, and bad service for $110 just didn't seem worth it.

They save me $3000.00 in airfares, I do not need to go back to my country for the food. This is the real thing.

Jan 2009. Great food and service. We were worried about delays since there were several large parties seated ahead of us. Entrees and mains arrived with perfect timing and pleasant service. It's so nice to have good latin food in Australia. I didn't realize how spoiled I was living in the USA and it's nice to have a good enchilada in Brisbane.
