About Wollongong

Wollongong is in the Wollongong & The Illawarra Region located in the state of New South Wales. The post code for Wollongong is 2500.

Wollongong, the third largest city in NSW, is pleasantly situated on the coast beneath the Illawarra Range and is referred to as The Leisure Coast. The first settlement of the area dates back to 1815 with pioneer Dr Charles Throsby and its early development was based on cedar-getting. After the beginning of coalmining in 1849, the post was enlarged with convict labour, but increasing trade led to the creation of a new harbour at Port Kembla.
