You’ll appreciate the down to earth nature at Spice Market Thai in Double Bay, who make no effort to be pretentious, despite the swanky location. The pace picks up in the evening, so if you want your own table it's best to dine early. Minimal adornment with a Thai theme keeps this place what regulars and soon to be regulars love: simple, sumptuous and with a surprisingly soft price tag. The menu may have Som Tum Gai Yang - BBQ chicken fillet served with a salad of papaya, peanuts, garlic, lemon and chilli.

LOCATION
Double Bay is known for its classy street cafes and restaurants, exclusive fashion boutiques and beauty salons. A well to do suburb whose local populace includes many of Sydney's prominent media personalities.

Spice Market is located at New South Head Road directly opposite the Double Bay Cinema (Greater Union). Why not complement an evening out at the movies with a healthy and delicious meal at Spice Market? And worry not; the prices are so normal that the common phrase: "double-bay, double-pay" certainly does not apply here.

ABOUT
It's ever so small, a hole-on-a-wall one might say. But Spice Market has operated for over a decade in Double Bay and has become somewhat of an institution. Operating on a first-come-first-serve basis, it's best to rock up before 7pm to secure seating, or you may need to summon a little bit of patience to jostle with regular diners for a space on communal tables.

There is always a real buzz at dinner time and the service is always, friendly and courteous. The food is stylish yet non-pretentious, fresh with the authentic flavours and aromas of Thai herbs and spices.

Elements of adventurous home cooking come to mind as twists are added to traditional recipes such as the use of tender lamb racks with the massaman curry. If the mere thought of spicy food would make you reach for a glass of water to cool down, then fear not. The popular Cashew Nut Stir-fry with caramelised chilli jam is flavoursome without being hot. Generally the meals are spiced at mild to medium but the chefs will accommodate all chilli-lovers with that extra dose of heat. Just ask for "Thai hot"!
