Beyond the wiry patterned partition at Assiette you’re likely to see chef, Soren Lascelles, turning out dishes and prices that patrons of this Surry Hills venue know and love. This highly accoladed, quaint and dainty bistro exudes French appeal; the intimate and romantic French dining room has artistic appeal, with a range of eclectic images including cheeky Renaissance style faces that keep an eye on things. The menu may have roasted loin and cannelloni of lamb with pea fritters, feta and mint puree.

Situated in cosmopolitan Surry Hills, Restaurant Assiette provides an intimate and stylish haven for foodies, gourmands and diners alike in search of a place to relax and enjoy the best food and wine with a modern French twist.
Our primary aim at Assiette is to ensure all our guests experience the opportunity to dine on fine food and wine with a complementing focus on attentive and knowledgeable service with a warm and inviting ambience.

THE CHEF
Head chef/owner Warren Turnbull is New Zealand born and had his career epiphany the first time he walked into a kitchen, where he realised he'd found his comfort zone. Two years later, Warren moved to London to further his desire to learn from others he had heard about, read about and seen on television.

After stints for various big restaurants around London, Turnbull's introduction to the Sydney food scene came in early 1998. On arriving in Sydney, he embarked on an ambitious cold-call of the city's top dining houses - MG Garage, bel mondo, Tetsuya's - until he spoke at last to a man called Liam Tomlin at a place called Banc. A meeting was arranged, and the rest is history.

For the next six years he worked alongside Liam Tomlin in Sydney's most prized kitchen, moving through the ranks to become head chef, until Banc's doors closed. After earning his first Sydney Morning Herald Chef's Hat shortly afterwards, Turnbull knew it was time to embark on his own venture.

AWARDS
Restaurant Assiette opened in 2005 and quickly earned a reputation for high quality at affordable prices. It has held its Sydney Morning Herald Chef's Hat award for three consecutive years and has been ranked in Australian Gourmet Traveller's Top 100 Australian Restaurants.

Thank You

Seven years ago I opened Assiette and have loved every moment of it since. Times change and while I am sad to say goodbye, my wife and I are moving our focus to New Zealand where we are both originally from, and passing Assiette onto someone else to enjoy as much as we have.

I would like to take his opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years. While we do not have a set date when we will be moving on, I hope to see you all again before we do.

New Opening Hours

This year Assiette has introduced some new opening hours. After listening to the feedback from our regulars we have decided to close Monday and Tuesday and instead extend our popular lunches to include Thursday, as well as Friday.

This is the only fine dining restaurant we continually crave to return too! My partner and I cannot decide who's choices are better! Best oysters I am yet to have! Favorite mains-beef and lamb! Good music, food, service, just leaving now, very satisfied! 100% value!!!
