The Artisan's Apprentice Overview

Few places make bread like The Artisan’s Apprentice in Parramatta. After working and training throughout Sydney, baker Chris Chamberlain opened this unique bakery/patisserie, where the bread is freshly baked the traditional way, using recipes that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. All mixing, fermenting, shaping and cutting is done by hand, resulting in beautifully crusty, flavoursome sourdough loaves ranging from classic French white to the more unusual roast beetroot or Angora honey and lavender. The Artisan’s Apprentice also bakes fresh sweet and savoury muffins and a variety of delicious tarts, which you can take away or enjoy on site with a coffee.

A hidden gem in Parramatta, this bakery produces very good bread in a wide range of varieties. Their sour doughs are outstanding, with good flavours and texture. However, their prices are what makes them the best. You will probably pay a dollar or two less here than comparable city bakeries. If you live or work in Parramatta, check out this bakery near Church St Mall: you won't be disappointed!!
