About South Coast NSW

A few hours south from Sydney, you'll find a strip of un-spoilt coastline offering pristine beaches, spectacular wilderness, picturesque seaside towns & quaint rural villages. Stretching from Berry to Eden, the South Coast contains no less than 10 separate national & marine parks. Its natural environment provides the atmosphere for a relaxing or adventurous visit – whether you want secluded beaches or majestic bush land, there's everything from guided mountain biking to four-wheel drive tours. For the water lover, you can enjoy whale or dolphin cruises, fantastic secret surf breaks, or offshore fishing charters. If fresh seafood is what you are after, you’ll find sumptuous fish, crayfish, crab, oysters & prawns available everywhere. The South Coast also takes pride in its cultural assets, from the many festivals to the extensive artistic scene. Meander through Kangaroo Valley or the quaint arts & crafts villages of the region and be sure to drop in on an award winning winery.

When to Visit South Coast NSW

The New South Wales south coast lies in the temperate zone with a climate generally free from extremes of heat and cold, affording a comfortable and relaxing stay at any time of the year. During summer it can be slightly humid, however the temperature cools the further south you travel. South westerly winds predominate during winter, flattening the seas inshore, but with high seas further out. North-easterly winds prevail during summer but remember any wind can occur in any season.

Getting Around South Coast NSW

The South Coast is best accessed by car however there are daily bus services from Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The closest airports are Sydney and Canberra. From Sydney to the northern most tip of the South coast is an approximate 3 hour drive. From Canberra to Batemans Bay, (which is located midway along the Coast), is approximately 2½ hours drive. Taxi and bus services are available throughout the region however the best way to get around is with a car. First-class Roads make driving in throughout the South Coast region simple.
