The Pass Cafe Overview

For Byron Bay locals, no trip to the beach or visit to the lighthouse would be complete without a coffee or bite to eat at The Pass Café afterwards. Thanks to fierce campaigning by the community, this much loved eatery has reopened after a two year closure; it’s seen a revamp though it retains the friendly service; simple, leafy setting; sheltered outdoor deck and gorgeous views over one of Australia’s best surf spots that make it so popular. The menu’s been kept simple, too – just fresh, seasonal local ingredients prepared with a minimum of fuss. Along with tasty burgers and toasted sandwiches, you could have fresh fish of the day or salt and pepper squid served with garden salad, downed with a milkshake or freshly squeezed juice.

Stopped here for lunch on an outrageously busy day in Byron and were very pleasantly surprised. The setting is lovely, far removed from the crowds, and my chilli squid salad was delicious - a very decent portion with lots of ingredients and crispy, perfectly cooked squid. Definitely one to return to.
