Perched on the river at Nambucca Heads, with magnificent views to the ocean beyond, Jaaning Tree Restaurant is a fine dining experience like no other. Diners can walk, drive or even float here; their restaurant is relaxed with a contemporary interior and indigenous artwork alongside the open kitchen and welcoming verandah tables. Taking its name from the Gumbaynggir for ‘wattle’, Jaaning Tree Restaurant fuses Asian cuisine with indigenous flavours and the freshest local produce. The result is stunningly innovative dishes such as citrus cured crocodile carpaccio or eye fillet served with fondant kipfler potatoes, organic green beans, cherry tomatoes, rocket and a native pepper berry glaze.

Combining innovative contemporary cuisine, riverfront views, fine wine and excellent service, Jaaning ("jaa-nee") Tree Restauarant is the lifelong ambition of owner and Head Chef Clayton Donovan. Clayton brings 15 years of experience to the picturesque town of Nambucca.

Clayton trained at one of Sydney's finest restaurants, The Watermark, before gaining truly global experience in some of England's finest hotels and restaurants. On returning to Australia Clayton has been working as a consultant chef setting up and developing menus for many fine dining restuarants and bistros across New South Wales.

Perched in a breathtaking waterfront location on the banks of the River Nambucca, Jaaning Tree has one of the best restaurant locations on the mid-north coast of NSW. Enjoy a meal inside or out with magnificent views of the Nambucca River and beyond to the ocean.

THE AMBIENCE AT JAANING TREE RESTAURANT
The restaurant offers a spacious rustic setting on the river, exuding a relaxed feel and offering an informal contemporary dining area. Unwind in a truly tranquil setting, especially on Sunday afternoons, with live music on the deck.

Bare tables with double cutlery setting, quality glassware and crockery offer a stylish appeal. The inside dining area is large with high ceilings; walls are soft lavender, both inside and out and a dark plum feature wall frames the open kitchen. Inside walls are also adorned in stunning artwork by leading local Indigenous artists, Lee Freestone and Danielle Burford, which is also for sale. The exterior verandah area boasts seating that overlooks the park.

By scouring the mid-north NSW coast for the finest seafood, meat and organic vegetables, Clayton has constructed an innovative menu that delivers a creative taste sensation like no other, boasting harmoniously flavoured Asian & Indigenous influenced cuisine to tantalise even the most discerning diner.

As a Koori, Clayton has a fascination with blending Asian cuisine with the local Indigenous flavours and produce. The restaurant's menu reflects this amazing fusion of produce with stunning dishes such as Hot smoked kangaroo in lemon myrtle. Dried herbs are also available from the restaurant for you to try at home.

Superb food in spectacular location with views to everywhere. Sensibly limited menu with interesting bushtucker and asian blends that just work. Lemon myrtle blends are wonderful examples. Professional service, friendly without being overweening. Interesting wine collection. Food is not cheap, but worth the splurge (and cheaper than Sydney prices for same quality) and now there's a tapas lunch option that gives an affordable taste selection. Half way between Sydney and Brisbane and worth an overnight stop nearby. Best food on the mid-north coast. Don't miss it. Has to be a serious hat candidate.
