About Wellington

Wellington is in the Central NSW Region located in the state of New South Wales. The post code for Wellington is 2820.

Situated on the Macquarie and Bell Rivers, Wellington is the centre of a hilly district which produces wool, cattle, fruit, vegetables and fodder crops. The town also manufactures agricultural machinery. Established in 1823 as a convict settlement and gazetted a town in 1846, Wellington grew rapidly after gold was discovered in nearby Stuart Town and Mookerawa in the 1850's. Curious visitors wishing to try their luck, can still pan gold and semi-precious stones in the local creeks.
