About Small French Bar

For all the elegance French cuisine has to offer, visit Small French Bar on Footscray’s Barkly Street, just west of Melbourne’s city. Tucked under the Royal Hotel, Small French Bar’s quaint venue offers an invitingly warm ambience and comforting depth created by heavy timbers and exposed bricks, setting the scene for an exciting culinary journey with a large, handcrafted ornamental snail to guide the way. A petite menu stays on trend with a selection of French delicacies all made in house from steak tartare, duck liver parfait and ratatouille nicoise to decadent desserts like rich chocolate fondant. Those wanting more can wander over to gourmet charcuterie and imported French cheese, available in a deli section to take home, or simply grab a fresh croissant with butter on the way out.

Delicious authentic French fare, warm, friendly service and great value in a small, quaint setting. Have not been more satisfied since being in France itself! Merci!

Have been buying french cheese, bread and pastries here since its recent opening. Have now stayed for a meal - the belated Bastille Day: french cocktail (Kir Royal), appetisers (smoked fish and creme cheese on french bread and oysters), entree (vol-au-vents or continental meats...like french antipasto), main (boeuf Bourguignon or Ratatouille/melted cheese) and dessert (chocolate pudding or apple tart). All for $55. Really like this place, and will be back for more meals
