A Place to Celebrate an Occasion
We moved from Sydney to Trinity Beach about a year ago and have now retired. We wanted something special to celebrate a special occasion so we made the short drive up to Port Douglas last Friday. We stayed at Peppers and booked dinner at Nautilus restaurant - and yes, Nautilus is very, very special. We had the 7 course degustation with matching wines. The food was impeccable - beautifully presented and the finest quality and flavour. The matching wines were also very good and complimented each course. It's hard to single out any course but if I had to name favourites I would say I absolutely loved the Yellow Fin Tuna Togarashi and the Painted Crayfish. The outdoor rainforest setting, attentive and knowledgeable service (both food and wine) were also special. I think Nautilus is a match for any fine dining restaurant I have been to.

Nautilus Restaurant! WOW, what an atmosphere this place has!! Walking up the pathway surrounded by palms and tropical plants lies the lit up pathway to heaven. Nautilus deserves a 20 out of 10 for its presentation. This would have to be the most romantic restaurant I have ever been to. Eating under the stars with the palm trees over head was just sensational. Low lighting and a good distance between each table made it feel very private and secluded. The food was beautiful, the duck dumplings in a broth were to die for as were the desserts. Victoria, Australia

A great location for a really nice meal. The food was all very good quality, I would highly recommend the chefs tasting menu although we did go for a bottle of wine rather than the reasonably expensive matching wines. The location is one of the most unique in Port Douglas, it is easy to forget you are still inside a town and not deep in a forest.

Went to Nautilus with 3 of my girlfriends for a hens night dinner. Setting is spectacular, great atmosphere and relaxed service. We were greeted and seated for cocktails before dinner. I ordered a chilly margarita, a bit to spicy for me but when I pointed this out to our cocktail waitress she offered to replace my drink and there wasn`t a charge on our bill (thank you). After been seated at our table we decided to order 2 of the 7 course degustation and 2 of the smaller 5 courses. All food was sensational, in particular the duck dumpling and the prawn in the 7 course. The 5 course first dish consisted of a beautiful Sashimi dish, and another stand out was the prawn and lemon risotto. Service was fantastic and unintrusive, after the introduction of special dishes and taking our order, the only interaction we had with our waiter was when the food was dropped off and explained. Bill was on the expensive side, but considering the settings, service and the quality food,(and the fact that everything in Port Douglas is very expensive) we have nothing to complain about.

We have been to Nautilus four times during our two weeks in PD. In our opinion it is one of the best restaurant in the world. Great setting fully immersed in the forest, nice table and chairs and what to say about the food .. Just Amazing loved the Coral sea selection and such high quality meat. Thank you keep doing it simple and with such a quality

Always a must when you visit! Quality food and service under a tropical canopy!! It's on Macrossan Street but feels a million miles away))

Everyone must try the experience at least once, such a beautiful setting

Its just simply the most beautiful setting to have a romantic dinner in that one could imagine. The dining area is intertwined with the natural surroudings and has no permanent roof. The tables are far enough apart for private conversation with natures "white noise" providing adequate background entertainment. The menu displayed skill and diversity. The wine list offered great scope for all tastes and affordability. The service was superb. The best in Port Douglas. We had 5 staff waiting at our table at various times with costant but not intrusive revsiting to pour wine or water, or simply to enquire about our experience. I had their signature dish, the coral trout. With 33 years of tradition underpinning this meal it provided me with an outstanding opportunity to enjoy one of the best whole fish experiences i've had. I heartily recommend Nautilus.

Hands down, the best restaurant I've ever been to (and I'm from Sydney) in terms of the brilliant menu, wonderful staff (in a place where good staff are hard to get) and magical setting.

We dined here for a friend's birthday. The prices make it a special occasion restaurant - but so does everything else about the dining experience! It is one of my 3 favourite dining experiences in Australia & number one for atmosphere/setting/decor.
