Review Based on Fine Dinning Experience.
Food was below par based on the fine dining category experience that the restaurant promotes as being although the prices still hoping to reflect that it is. It used to be exactly that and rated highly. Food quality has suffered and has not kept up with alternative comparable fine dinning restaurants in the area. It seems the Reef is targeting local family functions and group dinning with recent visits being amongst large tables of families who seem not to care how loud or how active the children are racing in between tables to look at the views. This has not been random occurrence with the last 4 visit over the past 12 months being subject to the same intrusions regardless of being a midweek or weekend booking. Sadly this is not the restaurant it used to be.
If you can get a window seat on a sunny day, I can't think of a more idyllic spot to lunch. The food was carefully prepared and the flavours balanced. I do think a bread roll or slice of bread should be offered FOC, as well as the more substantial bread options on the menu. The waiter was eager to please and attentive and the only thing that could have made it better is a pod of dolphins frolicking in the bay or a migrating whale (or two).
What a superb location. Waterviews are sublime. The food created by the Head Chef, Sous Chef and Chef de Partie at Reef Restaurant is outstanding. Location, Location, Location.
