Team 'AGFG' Gears Up For The Kokoda Challenge

When most of you think of the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide, I’m sure the last thing you think of are members of staff enthusiastic about a gruelling 96km hike through the Gold Coast Hinterland within a 39 hour time limit. And quite rightly so! Let’s face it; here at AGFG we are all much more at home enjoying the culinary abilities of Australia’s top chefs or the hospitality of an exclusive luxury resort.

But alas, a great cause such as this motivates one out of the comforts of their habitual zone. Well it does with a considerable amount of beguiling, torture, threats and intimidation! This year the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide is offering up Managing Director Jeremy de Bray; Peter Rose; Warwick Grinter; & Danny McNicol as a sacrifice to what we consider a truly noble and worthwhile cause.

Far from their customary roles, and well & truly out their routine responsibilities, we invite you to support these brave, and I suspect considerably naïve, men as they throw caution to the wind, their knifes, forks and spoons the to the floor, and try with all their might not to throw up as they do all they can in the name of the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program.

Additionally The Australian Good Food & Travel Guide will be featuring the event on the August 09 edition of the website and in the August 09 newsletter. As a further incentive, any Restaurants, Accommodation, Wineries, Bars, Attractions, etc… who are considering supporting/ sponsoring  this event & the AGFG team, will be acknowledged in the article and have their establishments logo and a link included. You will also go in the running to WIN A YEARS WORTH of Block and Banner advertising on the AGFG site (VALUED AT $5000.00!!!).

This year’s Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge held on the 18th & 19th of July 2009 with all funds going directly to the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program. The Challenge encompasses the Spirit of Kokoda with 96km representing the actual distance of the Kokoda Track and the 39 hours symbolising the 39th Militia who were the first of our Australian troops to arrive at Kokoda on 15th July 1942.

As at the 18th June 2009 the Kokoda Challenge Association has raised a total of $102,842.86 from a goal of $500,000.00. We invite you join us in showing support of this great cause, and encourage you to sponsor the AGFG team with as many or as few funds as you have to spare. The cut-off date for fundraising is the 3rd July. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductable!

Everyone who donates online goes into the running to win a trip for two to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Track.

You can make a fully tax deductible online donation to the Kokoda Challenge Association Public Fund. All you have to do is select 'AGFG' from the drop down menu provided and enter your personal details required.  Following the successful transaction you will be emailed a receipt which you can use for taxation purposes.
